Virtual Meeting between SSIFS and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan (IIRMFATM), Ashgabat

A virtual round table meeting between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), New Delhi and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan (IIRMFATM), Ashgabat took place on 05 October 2020 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the international recognition of the policy of ‘Permanent Neutrality’ of Turkmenistan.  The meeting was co-chaired by Amb. J. S. Mukul, Dean, SSIFS and Mr. Begench Myatliev, Vice-Rector for Science Affairs, IIRMFATM.

Bilateral relations between India and Turkmenistan were reviewed. Dean apprised the Turkmen side about SSIFS in detail. He noted that till now, SSIFS has trained 29 diplomats from Turkmenistan. Turkmen diplomats have attended courses like SSIFS’ flagship programme, Professional Course for Foreign Diplomats and first Special Course for Diplomats from Central Asia held in June-July 2019. SSIFS has a cooperation MoU with IIRMFATM signed during the landmark State visit of the Prime Minister to Ashgabat in July 2015.

As part of its development cooperation endeavour, Turkmenistan is an active partner in ITEC training and ICCR scholarships. There are regular exchanges of cultural troupes etc. between the two countries. India and Turkmenistan enjoy close, friendly and historical ties cemented by a regular exchange of high-level visits. They traditionally support each other at international fora. Both the countries are members of the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline project.
