The Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Services (SSIFS), in association with States Division of Ministry of External Affairs, is conducing the first special training programme on ‘Economic & Commercial Diplomacy’ for IAS and other officers from States and Union Territories of India from 4-8 January 2021 at SSIFS. Sixteen officers from ten States/UTs are participating in the programme.
Hon’ble Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India delivered a video message at the inaugural session on 4 January 2021. EAM described the States and UTs as integral partners in India’s international engagement. EAM said “the programme’s carefully designed content is aimed at inculcating among our State and UT officials, the necessary awareness, knowledge and skills to deal with the world. It is in the domain of our States and UTs that global cooperation will find practical manifestation.”
The week-long programme focuses on promotion and facilitation of international trade, foreign investment, joint ventures, connectivity, technology, tourism etc. relevant for States and Union Territories. It will provide an overview of international relations and cover diaspora, culture, education and protocol matters. During the Course, the participants will interact with senior officers from various Ministries/Departments, resident foreign Ambassadors in Delhi, retired diplomats, academics, chambers of commerce/export promotion councils, development cooperation agencies and resident commissioners of States /UTs in Delhi.
