Special Training Module on ‘Reformed Multilateralism’ for Diplomats from the Dominican Republic

A Special Training Module on ‘Reformed Multilateralism’ for Diplomats from the Dominican Republic (DR) is being held virtually from the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi on 16 June 2021. Seventy (70) diplomats are participating in the programme who would be joining in from the Institute of Higher Education in Diplomatic & Consular Training (INESDYC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dominican Republic .

The programme was jointly inaugurated on 16 June 2021 by Amb. J.S. Mukul, Dean (SSIFS) and Dr.Jose Espaillat, Dean (INESDYC). During the one- day programme, retired Ambassadors  addressed the diplomats on ‘Reformed Multilateralism’ with regard to the UN and WTO. There were special  interventions in the sessions by the DR Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and the DR Deputy Permanent Representative in New York.

Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SSIFS, MEA, India and INESDYC, MFA, DR was signed on 3 October 2017. In 2019, a Special Course for Diplomats of DR was organised by SSIFS. So far 13 diplomats from DR have participated in different  courses for foreign diplomats conducted by SSIFS.

Diplomatic relations between India and the Dominican Republic  were established in  1999. Bilateral relations  are friendly and cordial and continue to widen and deepen in all domains. Along with  India, DR was one of the Founding Members of   the International Solar Alliance.
