The 3rd Special Course for Diplomats from the Republic of South Sudan is being held at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from 17 May – 27 May 2022. Thirty diplomats from the Republic of South Sudan are participating in this course.
India has had long-standing relations with the people of the Republic of South Sudan. President of the Republic of South Sudan H.E. Mr. Salva Kiir led a high-level delegation to attend the 3rd India Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-III) in New Delhi in October 2015. During this visit, he held bilateral discussions with Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs of India Shri V. Muraleedharan visited Juba from 20-22 October 2021 for bilateral talks. Two special courses for diplomats from the Republic of South Sudan have been organised in 2017 and 2019. Diplomats from the Republic of South Sudan have also participated in other flagship programmes of SSIFS. A total of thirty-four diplomats from the Republic of South Sudan have undergone training at SSIFS. India has offered 15 ICCR scholarships, 240 ITEC and 45 IAFS-III slots to the Republic of South Sudan every year.
The 3rd Special Course was inaugurated on 17 May, 2022 by Dean (SSIFS) & AS (AD), Shri Arun K. Chatterjee. The Special Course would include modules on India’s foreign policy, India-West and North Africa Relations and in particular with Republic of South Sudan, development partnership cooperation, water and energy security, SDGs, role of women in diplomacy, agricultural and food security, Ayurveda, and disaster management. As part of their study tour, the diplomats would be undertaking visits to Rashtrapati Bhavan, Election Commission of India and the National Gallery of Modern Art. A session on yoga and Meditation is also being organised for the diplomats.
