1st Special Course for Diplomats from Central Asia

The 1st Special Course for diplomats from Central Asia is being held at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India from 24 June – 06 July 2019. 29 young diplomats from 5 Central Asian Countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) are participating in the Course. An announcement to hold the 1st Special Course was made by India during the 1st Central Asia Dialogue at Foreign Ministers-level held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in January 2019.

The Special Course was inaugurated at FSI on 24 June 2019. Amb. J.S. Mukul, Dean (FSI) also hosted a welcome reception for the diplomats from Central Asia.

 Amb. A. Gitesh Sarma, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs of India and other senior officers of the Ministry would address the diplomats from Central Asia as part of the training programme. The Special Course would include modules on India’s foreign policy, key international issues, multilateral diplomacy and diplomatic skills. The diplomats from Central Asia would also get an exposure to India’s economic and technological development and undertake study tours to experience the rich cultural heritage of India.

To date, 136 diplomats from Central Asia viz. 25 diplomats from Kazakhstan, 16 diplomats from Kyrgyzstan, 21 diplomats from Tajikistan, 24 diplomats from Turkmenistan and 50 diplomats from Uzbekistan have participated in FSI training programmes for foreign diplomats.

 Both India and Central Asia share ancient civilisational, cultural, trade and people to people links. They are committed to dynamic and fruitful friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation at bilateral and multilateral formats. India has always been and will always be a reliable friend and partner of Central Asia. This Special Course will further strengthen India’s friendly ties with Central Asia.
