Visit of Diplomats from Malaysia to Foreign Service Institute

Seven Malaysian diplomats, pursuing Diploma in Diplomacy from the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) of Malaysia, are visiting India from 27 July to 3 August 2019. The diplomats are accompanied by the Director and Assistant Director of IDFR. As part of their programme in India, the delegation visited the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India on 29 July 2019.

Amb J.S. Mukul, Dean FSI addressed the diplomats on the activities of FSI. He apprised the delegation about the training programmes conducted by FSI for Indian Foreign Service (IFS) of MEA and personnel of other ministries. Amb. Mukul gave a detailed briefing on training programmes conducted by FSI for foreign diplomats as a part of India’s development partnership in spirit of South-South Cooperation.

Dean (FSI) noted that 3000 diplomats from over 180 countries have participated in FSI’s training programmes. So far total of 17 diplomats from Malaysia have attended various courses at FSI, out of which 14 diplomats attended the Special Course for ASEAN diplomats, 1 diplomat had participated in 1st Special Course for IOR-ARC (IORA) diplomats, 1 diplomat in 62nd Professional Course for Foreign Diplomats, and 1 diplomat in 1st Annual Disarmament & International Security Affairs Fellowship Programme conducted by FSI. The address by Dean (FSI) was followed by a question-answer session and high tea.

India established its diplomatic relations with the Federation of Malaya (predecessor state of Malaysia) in 1957. Since then India and Malaysia have close friendly relations and regular Summit level meetings. Several Agreements and MoUs have been signed between the two countries. India and Malaysia enjoy close relations, both bilaterally and in Asean-centric fora.

The visit of the Malaysian diplomats is another step towards strengthening of bilateral ties between India and Malaysia.
