13th Special Course for Diplomats from ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations)

The 13th Special Course for Diplomats from ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) Member States is being held at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), Ministry of External Affairs of India from 14 October to 26 October 2019. In all, 12 young diplomats from ASEAN Member States are participating in this Course, including 1 diplomat from ASEAN Secretariat.

Amb. J.S. Mukul, Dean (FSI) hosted a welcome reception for the participating diplomats on 13 October 2019.

The 13th Special Course for Diplomats from ASEAN Member States would include the training modules on various topics including India’s foreign policy, key international issues, multilateral diplomacy and diplomatic skills. The participants would get an exposure to modern India’s economic and technological developments. They would also undertake study tours to experience the rich cultural heritage of India.

Pursuant to the fourth India-ASEAN Summit at Kuala Lumpur on 13-December 2005, India has been conducting training programme for diplomats from ASEAN. The 1st Special Course for ASEAN Diplomats was held at FSI in 2006. 

India’s relationship with ASEAN has emerged as a key cornerstone of India’s foreign policy. India-ASEAN Strategic Partnership acquired a new momentum with the announcement  of Act-East Policy in 2014. It conveyed a clear intent on part of India to upscale its engagement with ASEAN  Member  States.
