1st Special Course for Diplomats from BIMSTEC Member Countries

During the BIMSTEC Summit held in Nepal on 30-31 August 2018, India had announced that a Special Course for Diplomats from BIMSTEC Member Countries would be conducted by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. Accordingly, the 1st Special Course for Diplomats from BIMSTEC Member Countries is being held at FSI from 3-15 February 2020. 21 young diplomats from BIMSTEC Member Countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand) and BIMSTEC Secretariat are participating in the Course.

The Special Course was inaugurated at FSI on 03 February 2020. Amb. J.S. Mukul, Dean (FSI) also hosted a welcome reception for the diplomats on 02 February.

The Special Course includes modules on India’s foreign policy, key international issues, multilateral diplomacy and diplomatic skills. The diplomats will also get an exposure to India’s economic and technological development and undertake study tours to experience the rich cultural heritage of India.

India attaches great importance to BIMSTEC which links five countries from South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India & Sri Lanka) and two from South-East Asia (Myanmar & Thailand). The BIMSTEC Leaders participated in the swearing-in ceremony of Hon’ble Prime Minister at New Delhi on 30 May 2019.

The Special Course will further strengthen cooperation within the BIMSTEC framework.
