3rd Special Course for Diplomats from Syria

The 3rd Special Course for Syrian diplomats is being held at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service  (SSIFS) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India from 24 February-07 March 2020. 19 young diplomats from Syria are participating. The delegation is led by Amb. Ghassan Nseir, Dean of the Syrian Diplomatic Institute.

The Special Course was inaugurated at SSIFS on 24 February 2020. On 23 February, Amb. J.S. Mukul, Dean (SSIFS) hosted a welcome reception for the Syrian diplomats. Secretary (CPV & OIA), Ministry of External Affairs of India and other senior officers of the Ministry will address the Syrian diplomats as part of the training programme.

The Special Course would include modules on India’s foreign policy, key international issues, multilateral diplomacy and diplomatic skills. The Syrian diplomats would also get an exposure to India’s economic and technological development and undertake study tours to experience the rich cultural heritage of India.

By way of background, the 1st Special Course for 26 diplomats & 2nd Special Course for 40 Diplomats were successfully held at the SSIFS in January 2018 & February 2019 respectively. To date, 76 Syrian diplomats have participated in SSIFS training programmes for foreign diplomats.

India and Syria enjoy friendly political relations based on historic and civilizational ties. The Special Course will further strengthen India’s friendly ties with Syria.
