Annual Disarmament and International Security Affairs Fellowship Program
As part of India’s commitment to promote arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation education under the UNGA Resolution 71/57 “United Nations study on disarmament and non-proliferation education” and in line with the focus on ‘Disarmament Education’ in UNSG’s Disarmament Agenda ‘to Secure our World and our Future’, SSIFS, in collaboration with the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, conducts the Annual Disarmament and International Security Affairs Fellowship Program. Apart from the UN Disarmament Fellowship, India is the only country to conduct a Fellowship Program dedicated to disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation.
The inaugural Annual Disarmament and International Security Affairs Fellowship Program was held at SSIFS in collaboration with the D&ISA Division from 14 January to 1 February 2019. The Program saw participation from 26 countries. It was inaugurated by Foreign Secretary of India, Mr. Vijay Gokhale and United Nations High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu.
The 2nd Annual Disarmament and International Security Affairs Fellowship was conducted from 13-31 January 2020. A total 23 diplomats attended the course. The program was inaugurated by Amb. Vikas Swarup, Secretary (West) and Amb. Indramani Pandey, Additional Secretary (D&ISA), MEA.
The 3rd Annual Disarmament and International Security Affairs Fellowship was conducted from 09 - 27 January 2023. A total 34 diplomats from 30 countries attended the course.The program was inaugurated by Amb. Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West), MEA and Amb. Sanjiv Ranjan, Dean (SSIFS).
The nominee should be below 40 years of age, preferably with experience in dealing with disarmament and international security matters. Government of India bears the cost of economy-class international airfare, full boarding and lodging (in a five-star hotel) and local travel.
