Sushma Swaraj Lectures 2024 on Introduction to India
for Resident Foreign Diplomats

The Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), MEA and the India Foundation jointly organized the third edition of the ‘Sushma Swaraj Lectures (SSL 2021) on Introduction to India’ for resident foreign diplomats from 13-14 November 2024. The overarching objective of the lecture series is to introduce India to foreign diplomats resident in India.
The inaugural address was delivered by Secretary (East), Ambassador Jaideep Mazumdar. In his address, Secretary (East) described the ethos of Indian Foreign Policy which is guided by the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ i.e. the ‘World is one Family’ and seeks to leverage relations for development, peace and prosperity for the region and for the world. In this context, he also spoke about how India is becoming a digitally empowered society through initiatives such as Digital Public Infrastructure and ready to share this knowledge with other countries.
40 Diplomats from 30 countries are participating in the SSL 2024. The programme includes lectures on Indian history, polity, economy, culture and foreign policy which will be delivered by eminent speakers including senior Government officials and academicians.
The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) was renamed as the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) on 14 February 2020, the birth anniversary of former External Affairs Minister late Smt. Sushma Swaraj, as a solemn tribute to her exceptional and invaluable contribution to Indian diplomacy, ethos of public service and for her focus on training.
