'The 1st Special Course for Diplomats from Mexico is being held at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from 05-17 September 2022. Thirty-one young diplomats from Mexico are participating in this course. The Special Course was inaugurated on 05 September 2022 by Shri Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East) who delivered the Inaugural Address.
The training programme would include modules on India’s foreign policy, India’s relations with Latin America & the Caribbean, women in diplomacy, WTO, UN reforms, the Indo-Pacific, nuclear non-proliferation & disarmament, space diplomacy, negotiation skills, GoI’s economic initiatives and economic reforms, digital empowerment, India’s pandemic response etc. There will also be sessions on Ayurveda and Yoga. A two-day training module from 16-17 September 2022 is also being conducted by the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), Ahmedabad. As a part of their study tours in New Delhi, the young diplomats would be undertaking visits to Rashtrapati Bhavan, Election Commission of India, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya and Indian media houses.
India and Mexico share warm and friendly relations characterised by mutual understanding. The two countries share a dynamic, active and diversified relationship which is poised to grow and strengthen in the years to come.
There exists an institutional mechanism for cooperation in diplomatic training between the two countries. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed on 21 October 2005 between India and Mexico. Prior to this course, 23 diplomats from Mexico have trained at SSIFS.
