4th Annual Disarmament and International Security Affairs Fellowship Programme

The Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) is organizing the 4th Annual Disarmament and International Security Affairs Fellowship at New Delhi from 22 January to 09 February 2024. The Fellowship is an annual flagship programme and is organised in collaboration with the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

The Fellowship is in line with India’s commitment to promote arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation education under UNGA Resolution 71/57 “United Nations study on disarmament and non-proliferation education” and focuses on ‘Disarmament Education” in UNSG’s Disarmament Agenda ‘to Secure our World and our Future’. 

The 4th Annual D&ISA Fellowship was inaugurated on 22 January 2024 by Shri Gaddam Dharmendra, Dean (SSIFS) with Inaugural Remarks by Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs through a Video recorded message. Amb. D B Venkatesh Varma, India’s former PR to Conference on Disarmament, Geneva delivered the Keynote Address.

The three-week Fellowship includes modules on various facets of disarmament and International Security related issues such as India’s Approach to Global Nuclear Order, New Challenges in International Security, Evolution of the OPCW, Outer Space Security, Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems, Wassenaar Arrangement, UNSCR 1540, Priorities for India’s Presidency at the CD, Space Diplomacy etc. Eminent speakers, both international and domestic, on the subject of disarmament and international security have been invited to address the participants.

Twenty-four young diplomats representing different countries cutting across geographies are participating in the Fellowship. The diplomats will visit various Institutions and Organisations in Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
